Apple is officially moving forward with its WeWork TV series, WeCrashed.
Based on the Wondery podcast of the same name, Anne Hathaway and Jared Leto will star in the limited series from creators Lee Eisenberg (Apple’s Little America) and Drew Crevello (The Long Dark). Produced in-house at the tech giant’s recently launched Apple Studios, This Is Us duo John Requa and Glenn Ficarra will direct and exec produce.
The eight-episode drama will follow the greed-filled rise and inevitable fall of start-up WeWork and the narcissists whose chaotic love made it all possible. Leto will play WeWork founder Adam Neumann, with Hathaway set to play his wife and co-founder Rebekah Newmann. Both stars will also be credited as exec producers on the show. (A premiere time frame has not yet been determined.)

Eisenberg, who has an overall deal with Apple, will co-write, exec produce and serve as showrunner alongside Crevello. Wondery will exec produce. Charlie Gogolak, a partner with Ficarra and Requa in Zaftig Films, will exec produce. Natalie Sandy, Eisenberg’s vp development at Piece of Work Entertainment, also exec produces. Leto’s Paradox partner Emmy Ludbrook also exec produces.
WeCrashed marks a return to television for Leto, who shot to stardom as the male lead opposite Claire Danes in the brilliant but short-lived 1990s ABC high school drama My So-Called Life. On the feature side, Leto’s credits include Dallas Buyers Club, Suicide Squad, Requiem for a Dream and the upcoming Spider-Man spinoff Morbius. He’s repped by WME and Carlos Goodman.
For Hathaway, meanwhile, most recently appeared in Amazon’s episodic anthology Modern Love and won an Emmy for her voice work on The Simpsons. Her last series regular role was in Fox’s 1999 family entry Get Real. On the big screen, her credits include Les Miserables, The Dark Knight Rises and Ocean’s 8. She next has feature Locked Down due this year. Hathaway is with CAA, Management 360 and Sloane Offer.
WeCrashed is the second WeWork TV series in the works. Succession favorite Nicholas Braun (aka “Cousin Greg”) will play Adam Neumann in a drama from You’re the Worst creator Stephen Falk that is based on a book from Wall Street Journal reporters Eliot Brown and Maureen Farrell. As part of the rights deal, Chernin Entertainment and Endeavor Content are also prepping a documentary about the embattled company that is also based on the duo’s book.
For Apple, WeCrashed is the latest series to be produced via Apple Studios and joins Lessons in Chemistry starring Brie Larson, The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey starring Samuel L. Jackson and Band of Brothers follow-up Masters of the Air, among others. The series is also the latest scripted entry based on a Wondery podcast and joins The Shrink Next Door starring Paul Rudd, Will Ferrell and Kathryn Hahn.
