I’m not really a fan of posts from VCs that celebrate every portfolio company achievement (even if they are to be celebrated). They are a bit too “look-at-me” for my taste. So while this is probably hypocritical (and I apologize for that), I have to share this week’s Digital Currency Group news. https://lnkd.in/eCF93HgN I cannot stress enough that I played absolutely zero part in this success. All the credit goes to CEO Barry Silbert and the wonderful team he has built over the years (from those in the early days to the business line leaders today). We invested in mid-2015 based on Barry’s belief in a crypto future, and it has been incredible watching him execute on and expand that vision. It’s really rare to have a “decacorn” in your portfolio while at the same time believing with strong conviction that the company is wildly undervalued and has so much more room to grow. We are firm believers that crypto/Web3 will usher in a major economic revolution over the next decade+, and DCG is well-positioned to be one of the most consequential companies of our lifetimes. Onward!

Today is my 6-year anniversary as a Venture Capitalist at Transamerica Ventures. My roles, responsibilities and job titles have changed - I have gone from Analyst to Associate to Investment Manager to Investment Director in charge of our North American investment activities - and I’m still at the stage of life where six years is a long time, so as I have looked back today, I found myself just wanting to say: ‘Thank You’. - Thank You to the people who help me find and qualify for this opportunity back in early 2014. - Thank you to the Transamerica Ventures team, especially my boss, who have worked alongside me all these years and who have tolerated my quirks. - Thank You to all of the Transamerica and Aegon employees who put up with my constant badgering to look at more startups and less at legacy vendors (or less in-house building). - Thank You to my network of fellow investors and financial industry executives/workers who have shared deals, knowledge, insights and connections. - And most importantly, thank you to all of the entrepreneurs I have met that have answered my thousands of questions, taught me new things, inspired me to grow, and built awesome companies, whether we have invested or not. I have no idea what the next six years will hold, but I’m excited for the ride.
